Each time you finish a script, it feels immensely gratifying. You’ve got this stack of pages in front of you that you’ve put all of your energy and heart into. . . but you have no idea what to do with it. You’re looking to get your start as a screenwriter, but you’re struggling to find a way in. It’s difficult to enter the industry, especially without any professional experience under your belt. A path to consider applying for a writing fellowship or mentorship program. These programs accept writers who are inexperienced and give them a chance to work in the development stage of a series or film. While this list does not include every fellowship/mentorship program available for screenwriters right now, it includes those whose application windows are currently open or will open within this year. It’s important to keep in mind these programs and the entertainment industry, in general, can be extremely competitive. Even if you do not get accepted on your first attempt, it is still valuable to go through the steps of preparing your work and putting it out into the world so you can learn from the process of doing that.
